Rory Stear

Rory Stear is Chairman of Etavi Renewables. An entrepreneur and corporate leader, he has built and led businesses across renewable energy, telecommunications and investment in the United States, the United Kingdom, Africa and Asia.

Rory co-founded Freeplay Energy, the micro-energy company that pioneered hand-powered radios and lighting products for communities with limited access to electricity. He led the business from its inception through international expansion and a listing on the London Stock Exchange.

His wider business experience includes chairing Flambard Holdings. Across his career, Rory has focused on building commercially successful enterprises that also address social needs, bringing together investment, innovation and access to energy.

His work has been recognised by BusinessWeek as an Entrepreneur of the Year, by Time as a Hero of the Environment, and by Time, Fortune and CNN as a Principal Voice on energy poverty. He has served on the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Renewable Energy and spoken at international business and energy forums.
